The incident took place in Hartford on Saturday, June 11 around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Albany Avenue and Garden Street.

When Hartford Police responded for a report of a serious vehicle versus pedestrian crash, they found 62-year-old Rafael Ortiz, of Hartford, lying in the roadway suffering from life-threatening injuries, said Lt. Aaron Boisvert.

Ortiz was transported to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was later died, Boisvert said.

The vehicle involved in the crash, suspected to be a gray, early to mid-2000’s Infiniti I30, fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival, he added.

The crash was captured on C4 cameras, and the vehicle was spotted on camera the day after the crash with damage to the hood and grill, Boisvert said.

The suspect vehicle was last seen with Connecticut license plate AZ98699, with a black hood and front bumper.
